Send to KindleDing dong the cleanse is done! I lost a fair amount of weight (I’m back in my skinny jeans – I use that as a guide instead of an actual scale.), my skin looks great and I feel refreshed. Time to tox it all up again. Well, not quite that fast. I am back to eating some of my favorites again. But I still eat lots of the things from my cleanse. After 21 days it becomes more of a routine than something I have to think about.
With the end of the cleanse comes the return of libation Friday. Woo Hoo! Two nights ago, I hosted my monthly spirit tweetup, and I’m not referring to a pep rally, I’m talking booze. This last tweetup was a great one, we covered rum and had The Black Seal rum join us to give some drink recipes as well as answer questions about rum. We all had a great time and learned a few things. The tweetups are open to anyone with a Twitter account. Next month the topic is red wine (natch, it is the month of Valentine’s). If you want to find out when it is, simply follow me on Twitter. I can be found at @MyMansBelly. I start promoting the tweetup two weeks before the date.
So with all of that talk about rum, I had to do a rum post today – and dove into my spiced rum recipes. Since I recently had the recommendation to try a rum called The Kraken (release the Kraken) I knew I had to use it in today’s drink. The Kraken is a seriously dark (almost black) spiced rum, but don’t let that scare you away. While it’s 94 proof (hey, The Kraken can kick some ass…just Google it), it’s got a subtle (seductive) sweet flavor with lots of spice flavors that you can actually taste.
While I read several articles from people extolling the virtues of drinking Kraken rum straight up, diluted with a touch of water, I didn’t think that would be best for today’s post. I started going through my mental rolodex of spiced rum recipes I like, and I kept returning to tropical. I realize it’s January and hot buttered rum is probably more appropriate, but it’s been in the 80′s here for the past couple of weeks. So I took that as a sign.
This isn’t one of those frou-frou frozen rum cocktails and it’s not as in your face as a boilermaker either. I used coconut water for it’s subtle flavor and knew that it would thin down some of the sweetness from the rum and a hit of lime for some brightness. It will remind you of a no nonsense pina colada.
Relationship Advice
News flash — when men watch the news, delivered by an attractive woman, they don’t retain what was being spoken about. Huh? Someone actually did a legitimate study on The Sexualization of Television News Journalists as a Promotional Strategy? Yes, they did. They learned that the sex appeal of the news anchors had an inverse relationship to the amount of news information that men retained.
I suppose that you could extrapolate these results into day to day living as well. Take the big boobed waitress at Hooter’s. Does your guy go speechless when she comes to the table? Is it more noticeable when you’ve asked your honey to ask the waitress for another soda/beer the next time she comes around and the only words that come out of his mouth are “yeah, everything’s great?” No mention of the soda.
Have you ever tried to have a conversation your guy when you’re both getting ready for work in the morning? Have you noticed that the conversation goes smoothly when you’re in the bathroom and he’s in the other room? What happens when you’re standing there in nothing but your bra and panties and he’s standing right in front of you? Does the conversation stop?
What can we learn from this? If you need to deliver some bad news, like you wrecked the car or went a little crazy with the credit card at the mall, put on your sexiest outfit or lingerie and deliver the news. It should go over much easier since he won’t retain much of it anyway. If you really want to seal the deal…jump his bones and have mad crazy sex.

Best. Damn. Rum. EVER!!!! This kicked out behinds in a way that we could’ve only hoped for! Yay Kraken!!!! See – http://wp.me/p106i6-YW
about 2 years ago I saw Kraken rum in a gas station on a reservation just north of Las Vegas, so I bought all the 750 ml bottles on the shelf. went to Circus Circus and shared it with some friends and loved it. Now I buy it by the case in the 1.75 ltr bottles. As well as Sailor Jerry’s and Blackheart. I have diverted a lot of people to Kraken, Jerry’s & Blackheart.
I’m afraid to ask how many bottles you bought that first time. But hey, it’s Vegas baby! I first tried The Kraken after a bar owner and head bartender (from different resto’s) suggested I try it. I’ve been hooked ever since. Release the Kraken!
Disappointed I missed the tweetup – cuz I would have recommended the Rum Swizzle. The Kraken bottle is very cool – like the sea creature on the label.
I love the name of your site! I wish I would have thought of this one.
I saw this rum at your house and have been expecting this post! TKS GREG
I think I have to have this rum for the name alone!!! Simple and easy cocktail – perfect for a friday night!!
I love your advice about delivering bad news.
The rum looks great too!
Your Relationship Advice had me laughing
Great idea about the tweet-ups. What a beautiful glass of rum. I must admit…the only time I use rum is for a cake. You’ve made me interested in this Kraken, though!
‘no nonsense pina colada’ LOVE it! I’m totally going to try this one!
