Send to KindleWhat do you get when you mix a former Ikette (that would be a back up singer for Ike and Tina Turner), a business partner (who happens to be your son) and a popular soul food restaurant in St. Louis?
You get a really fun docuseries (which is a fancy word for reality show) on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN TV). Honest! This is reality television that you’ll enjoy watching and you won’t feel like you have to take a shower when you’re done watching it. You also won’t feel like going through your grandmother’s attic to find something to hock, locking up your teenage daughter until she’s 40, the only rose ceremony you ever want to see involves New Years Day and a parade, or that if only you could have $100,000 of plastic surgery you would look better.
Robbie Montgomery (Ms. Robbie) is running two, very popular, soul food restaurants with the help of her business partner (her son) Tim, her (smart ass and directionally challenged) nephew Lil’ Charles and Tim’s fiancée Jenae. All this while she works to open her third (and ultimate dream) restaurant while Tim, Jenae and their newborn are all living under Ms. Robbie’s roof. Sounds like the drama llama makes a few appearances? Yep!
Imagine if you were in business with your mother. I don’t know about you, but if it was about a business that involved myself and my mother, it wouldn’t be a show fit for OWN TV. There would be so many bleeps and scenes blacked out that there really wouldn’t even be a show.
I was able to see the first episode of Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s, which premiere’s on March 31st, along with Ms. Robbie and her son Tim. What a great show. There were LOTS of laughs and a few nail biter experiences. I won’t spoil it for you by giving away anything that happens. But watching the faces of Ms. Robbie and Tim, while they also saw this episode for the first time, were priceless. To say that Tim does some things behind his mother’s back that she’s not too thrilled with would be an understatement. The day of the viewing, Ms. Robbie admitted to us that she and Tim had not been on speaking terms for a couple of weeks and had only been talking again for a couple of days. This is a REAL family.
I’m looking forward to watching this season of Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s to see how the new restaurant comes together, to see if Lil’ Charles gets his act together and to find out how the whole ‘family under one roof’ pans out. This is one you’ll want to make sure you watch too.
