What happens when my brain decides it wants to play with a classic cocktail and give it a new taste? I started with the idea of re-working The White Russian cocktail – Kahlua, Vodka and cream. When this seemingly simple classic went through the vortex of gray matter that sits between my ears what came out the other side is being called The Jaundiced Putin aka a limoncello cocktail.
For the record…I didn’t name the drink as any kind of a political statement about, for or against the Russian President. It’s merely a play on the name of The White Russian that it was named the Jaundiced Putin…get it?
I’ve already done a couple of summer drink recipes to quench your unending thirst in these hot and steamy months. There was the other classic cocktail: a gin fizz as well as fresh fruit cocktail involving that beloved summer fruit, the blueberry. But this cocktail recipe, while refreshing, is bit more on the sultry side. It does include the words whipped and cream.
Instead of pouring yourself a little glass of well chilled Limoncello, why not make it a Limoncello cocktail? Just like The White Russian, this recipe calls for three things: Limoncello, vodka and whipping cream. The measurements are slightly different in this and to make it a bit more fancy, I’ve whipped the cream instead of just pouring it over top of everything.
This is another one of those summer drink recipes that you can make up by the batch. I have a little get together this weekend and plan on serving it from a large carafe. In the pictures above, I piped the whipped cream (By the way…that’s not some ordinary whipped cream. I used some of that leftover Noyaux cream from my tart post. I also made another batch of drinks and topped it with whipping cream flavored with a touch of powdered sugar and vanilla – that recipe will be included below.) on top of the drinks because it looked much better in the photos. But you can spoon it on top when you serve them. For my party, I’ll make up a batch of whipped cream and set it out in bowl, with a spoon, next to the carafe of Limoncello cocktail. Serve yourself…makes having a party so much easier.
