Irish Whiskey Milkshake for St. Patrick's Day

It’s almost St. Patrick’s Day. Are you ready for the parties? Have you bought your Irish whiskey yet? Today I’ve got a recipe for an Irish whiskey milkshake that’s gonna have your inner leprechaun dancing his/her little heart out. The nice thing about this milkshake is that you can mix up a big batch of them at the same time so everyone’s got a little Irish in them and you can enjoy the party for a little longer before mixing up another batch.

Stop scrunching up your face over the thought of Irish whiskey. Just because you don’t consider yourself a “whiskey person” doesn’t mean you won’t enjoy this frozen cocktail. Let’s face it, it is a milkshake after all. While Irish whiskey, or any whiskey for that matter, can be a bit strong when you try to drink it straight up, this cocktail tempers it with a little creme de cacao (to give it a mellower hit of chocolate flavor) then it’s got the cream and ice cream in it to further soften the hit.

While I know this cocktail is really delicious, and kinda pretty, it still packs a mean punch.

A Rich and Delicious Irish Whiskey Milkshake

A little bit about Irish whiskey….

There are four main categories of Irish whiskey – blended, single grain, single malt, and pot still. I highly recommend a blended Irish whiskey for this recipe. Because it’s mixed with such heavy ingredients, you don’t want to go using your top shelf single malt stuff here. The blended works just fine! Plus, the blended won’t give you any of those heavy peat moss flavors that some of the single malts can (the peat moss effect is determined by where in Ireland the whiskey comes from).

Of course, if you think you can’t have ice cream without cake (and you want to stay on theme) I’ve got a rockin’ Guinness cake you can make too.

An Irish whiskey milkshake that's strictly adult. Delicious chocolate, ice cream, and Irish whiskey combine to make the leprechaun in you dance.

Ingredients
  • 1½ Ounce Blended Irish Whiskey
  • 1 Ounce White Creme de Cacao
  • 1½ Cups (high quality) Vanilla Ice Cream
  • ¼ Cup Heavy Cream
  • Grated Dark Chocolate (for topping)
Instructions
  1. Add all ingredients, except for chocolate, into blender and buzz just until smooth.
  2. Pour into deep martini glass.
  3. Top with chocolate shavings.
Notes
To make it really fancy, you could drizzle chocolate syrup inside the glass just before you pour the shake into it.

Thanks for the info. Yep, knew it would be a ‘heavy hitter’ in the Calorie department. The benefit to be is now I can plan my exercise to equal this wonderful cocktail’s calorie count. 🙂

I’ve only ever had single malt but I know what you mean about peat. I think this is a great way to celebrate the holiday.

Hi John, Let’s just say this isn’t exactly Olympic training food. Calories: 600 (that’s accounting for super premium ice cream), Carbs 87g, Fat 72g, Protein 22g
