OXO Spring Cleaning the Kitchen

OXO Spring Cleaning the Kitchen

After all the cold and muck comes beautiful Spring. And with that comes the annual Spring cleaning (UGH). Thankfully, OXO has great ways to help with that yucky task.

If you haven’t already guessed, this is a sponsored post. OXO sent me a big box of some of their greatest products to help me take on the sucky task of cleaning up my kitchen. It’s like they have a spy looking in on me. My counter and sink are a H-O-T-M-E-S-S.

Even though I knew getting this box, it meant I actually had to suck it up and clean up my mess, I was pretty happy to get the products from OXO though. To say I’m a huge fan would be a serious understatement. If you look in my store, you’ll see lots of OXO cooking products in there. I don’t know about you, but I don’t really think about OXO for clean up. I’m not sure why…since they’ve got so many products to help clean up the entire house (as I have recently found out). I guess I just never looked beyond the kitchen. So….Spring cleaning…..Yay?!?!

OXO Composter Bin

The first thing I want to talk about is the compost bin. The one you see in these pictures is not the one they sent me (but it looks exactly the same). I’ve been using their compost bin for about 3 years now. I’ve got two backyard composters that I’ve been using religiously for creating compost out of my green waste scraps and using in my garden. I love my composters so much that I made my movers bring them with me to Texas. Before using the OXO compost bin, I would toss my green scraps into any old plastic container and leave it on the counter until it was time to dump. What a stinky mess (and I’m downplaying that a lot). It was disgusting to look at, stuff fell on my counters and it smelled. I read about the OXO composter, couldn’t figure out what was so special about it, but I bought it anyway. I’m so glad that I did. Nothing spills onto my counters, it doesn’t smell and the lid and handle make it a lot easier to cart it from the kitchen to the outside compost bin without spilling anything. Yes, I LOVE my compost bin.

Oh, and my mom was recently visiting and loved this compost bin so much she ordered one for her kitchen. Not for composting, but to put little bits of garbage (like wrappers and vegetable peels) in while she’s working at her sink. She’s gonna be kinda mad when she reads this and sees that I now have two of them. 🙂

OXO Heavy Duty Pot Scrubber

I’m always looking for a heavy duty scrubber. My stock pots always look like they’re half a step away from going in the garbage after I cook a hunk of meat in them for hours. If you don’t have a good strong scrubber, that’s where you swear you’re going to put that pot. Now that I live where it gets cold in the winter, I found myself doing lots of braised dishes. So I also found myself scrubbing an awful lot of pots. I have also learned, through this experience, that the pot scrubbers that I thought were good are only really good for one or two scrubbings and then they’re done. This OXO heavy duty scrubber lets me get at the cooked on stuff from an angle that actually allows me to remove it without having to get out a blow torch. The scrubbing pad is also really heavy duty and holds up to the baked/burnt on crud. The fact that it comes in its own tray is a nice little bonus. It helps keep my counter gunk free.

OXO Magnetic Clips

The colorful magnetized clips they sent are definitely coming in handy. We buy a lot of foods in bulk bags. What doesn’t get transferred into sealed containers stays in its bag and gets clipped with either a metal clip (which formerly was attached to a bag of coffee) or one of Craig’s office paper clips. Neither of which is particularly easy to find in the drawer we toss them into. As soon as I opened up the box, and saw these clips, I ripped off the old metal clips and put these on the bags. Aren’t they cute? Cute and practical…just like me (or so I try to convince Craig). I’m not too sure how convinced he is of me, but I know he approves of the new clips. (And I take my victories where I can get them.)

OXO Sponge Holder

Last, but not least, is this stainless steel sponge holder. Craig thought that was greatest thing in the world when he saw it. We’ve had arguments over the smelly kitchen sponge once or twice. I always try to stand it up on its side so that it dries out and doesn’t lay around in the water and get smelly. Craig’s not so careful about that. I wouldn’t say that I’m to anal retentive about it either. Sooooooo….we end up with a really stinky sponge. Now that we’ve got this sponge holder to actually hold the sponge up, I think the stinky sponge problem will be no more. Seriously….it really is the little victories. I keep it right up on my sink and the brushed stainless steel design goes brilliantly with my faucet.

So now that it’s Spring (YAY!) and it really is time to get that Spring cleaning thing done, maybe some of these items will help nudge you to take a more positive outlook on the whole thing. I mean, cleaning is no fun, but if you’ve got the right products to help you do it, it might not be that bad.

I’ve been trying to remember the name of cereal I had at your house that I liked so much, and there it is! Thanks.

Oxo makes some really nice products, don’t they? Never even knew they made this stuff, however! What a score! And so useful. Good post — thanks.
