Easter Treat Recipes - Oreo Bunny Butts

How cute are these little Easter Treats? Oh sure, you can go out and buy a bunch of bags of stuff to pour into your Easter baskets, but wouldn’t those baskets look a whole lot cuter with some of these bunny butts in there? Yes, they would.

Every once in a while I go into “cute” mode and have to make something really cute. These little Easter chick cakes were the result of that “cute mode” a couple of years ago. This year I had to make bunny butts. For some reason I got this thing in my head that I had to get my hands on some Oreos and make these little bunnies. (Maybe it was my subconscious telling me my body was a little short on its quota of Oreo…maybe.)

These Easter treats really are as easy to make as they look. All you need is Oreos, candy melts, some fondant and chocolate candies for their tails. You could use regular chocolate to make these bunnies too, if you like, but I was too lazy to deal with the proper tempering. You don’t have to do that with candy melts. Just melt, dip and you’re done.

If you really want to take these Easter treats to the next level, you could turn them into Oreo pops. All you need to do is add a stick to the Oreo and continue the same way. (Pull the Oreo apart, dip the stick into some of the melted candy melt, nestle it into the filling, put the cookie back on and let it harden. Proceed with the direction and your bunny butts will become Oreo pops. Also very cute.)

The best part of making these bunny butts was seeing Craig’s face when he came home from work and saw them. You would have thought there was a five pound chocolate rabbit on the counter with his name on it. Then he had the difficult decision of whether to eat the pink or white bunny. Since they both have the same flavor, it made his decision that much more difficult. (How he makes decisions during the day blows my mind sometimes.)

Recipe type: Snack
Cuisine: American
Serves: 24
Ingredients
  • 1 Fondant Recipe
  • 1 Package Pink Candy Melts
  • 1 Package White Candy Melts
  • 1 Package Oreo Cookies
  • 1 Package Sixlets Chocolate Candies
Instructions
  1. Roll out fondant and cut bunny head/ears. I used the Peep bunny cookie cutter then cut the head along the curve of the Oreo so that it would adhere better.
  2. Melt candy melts in individual bowls according to package directions.
  3. Dip Oreo into candy melt and flip so that both sides are covered.
  4. Remove cookie with a fork and shake off excess candy melt and lay coated oreo on a sheet of wax or parchment paper.
  5. Add sixlet to bottom of cookie, for tail.
  6. Dip a little of the bottom of the fondant head into the candy melt and adhere it to the top of the Oreo.
  7. Let bunnies dry before moving them.
  8. Arrange toothpicks underneath ears to help prop them up if needed.
