Santa Claus gets treats so why not the Easter Bunny? Leave a bowl of this puppy chow out for the Easter Bunny and you’re sure to find a little extra in your basket.

Traditional puppy chow is full of sweet chocolaty flavor. This Easter Bunny puppy chow has a light cake like flavor that’s perfect for Spring (and will be a big hit with the Easter Bunny).

Who wouldn’t love to dig into a big bowl of sweet and crunchy goodness to counterbalance all of that creamy chocolate? This puppy chow has it all…sweet, crunch and lots of pretty colors.

I wouldn’t exactly call this an innovative recipe…it’s just a riff on the standard chocolate/peanut butter puppy chow recipe. But sometimes it’s just nice to have something different. Don’t you think?

We grew up with the savory cousin to this – Chex party mix. Big bowls of that were always set out if there was a party at my parents house. But I say who needs a party to make a bowl? Especially of this sweet stuff. This recipe doesn’t make a HUGE batch, but definitely enough to share. I tossed in some peanut m&m’s but you could toss in plain m&m’s or even those cute little malted milk eggs (those would be really pretty mixed in with all those sprinkles).

Don’t deprive the Easter Bunny of his right to have a little snack when he’s making his rounds. Make up a batch of this pretty puppy chow and leave him a bowl…or two.

This colorful Easter twist on the traditional puppy chow will have everyone reaching for more. Bright colors and cake flavor make this one a hit.
Recipe type: Snack

Serves: 1
  • 4½ cups Rice Chex cereal
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into ½" pieces
  • 8 ounces bright white Candy Melts (vanilla flavored)
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • ⅓ cup nonpareilles sprinkles (the little round balls)
  • ¼ cup confetti sprinkles
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 bag peanut m&m's
  1. Pour cereal into a large bowl and set aside.
  2. Add butter, candy melts and almond extract into a microwave safe container.
  3. Heat, in microwave, in 30 second intervals (on high). Stir after each heating. Continue heating and stirring until everything has melted. Stir to thoroughly combine ingredients.
  4. Pour over cereal and stir to coat the cereal with the hot mixture.
  5. Add both of the sprinkles to the bowl and toss to coat the cereal.
  6. Pour powdered sugar into gallon zip top bag then add the warm cereal mixture to the bag.
  7. Seal the bag and shake. Continue to shake the bag until all of the cereal has been coated with the sugar.
  8. Pour out onto a foil lined baking sheet and let cool.
  9. Once mixture has cooled, pour it into an airtight container and add as many peanut m&m's as you like.
  10. This will last up to a week in an airtight container or until the rest of your house finds it.
