A tequila Bloody Mary is what you need to serve for your next brunch get together or the next time you go out for brunch.
The Bloody Mary might just be the quintessential drink for brunch. You see it on every menu and some restaurants even have a Bloody Mary bar where you can concoct your own Bloody Mary. But sometimes you just need to shake things up a bit. I’m not saying to do away with the Bloody Mary…quite the contrary. I’m suggesting you swap out that boring vodka for tequila and make a tequila Bloody Mary.
Savory tasting tequila is a perfect addition to the tomato or vegetable juice used in making the Bloody Maria. Where vodka is nice and allows all the ingredients to shine through, tequila actually adds even more flavor to the Bloody Maria.
I recently received a bottle of Soltado tequila and thought it would be the perfect thing to use in a Bloody Maria cocktail. Why? Because Soltado tequila is a small batch añejo tequila that’s infused with organic Serrano peppers and Mexican cinnamon. Not only does the Soltado tequila add a great flavor to the drink, but the Serrano adds a bit of heat and the cinnamon gives the cocktail a rich flavor.
Soltado isn’t owned by a big corporation or some celebrity, it’s owned and operated as a co-op, run by 80 farmers and their families.
Craig is the big Bloody Mary fan in our house, so I made this cocktail for him to enjoy. He was skeptical, at first, when he heard about the infusions but LOVED the Bloody Maria that it made. In fact, he went back for seconds!
I really like the Serrano and cinnamon infusion and could easily see using this in a citrus margarita. This tequila would also be the perfect addition for a kicked up Michelada. The infusions in this tequila remind me a bit of Mezcal which has a rich smoky flavor to it.
Brighten up your next brunch and serve up this Bloody Maria cocktail to your guests. They’ll thank you for it!
- 1 ounce Soltado tequila
- juice from ½ lime
- ⅛ teaspoon celery salt
- Worcestershire sauce (to taste)
- 5-6 ounces vegetable or tomato juice
- celery stick (for garnish)
- lime wedge (for garnish)
- Add tequila, lime juice, celery salt and Worcestershire sauce to a tall glass and stir to combine.
- Fill glass with ice.
- Top off with vegetable or tomato juice.
- Add celery stick and use this to stir up cocktail.
- Add lime wedge to glass.
