Saltine Cracker Toffee Candy is an easy candy recipe you can make in no time. It’s perfect for Christmas gifts for friends and neighbors. Better make a double batch.

This easy recipe has been around for years, but have you made it yet. Saltine cracker toffee candy is the best! It’s easy to make (no candy thermometer needed) and gets gobbled up so fast you won’t believe it.

I first had this saltine cracker toffee candy about 12 years ago on a trip to Florida. We passed the tin around the room once and before I knew it, the tin was making a second and third go ’round. It’s just that good. It’s got that salt and sweet combination that you crave.

It only takes 4 ingredients to make, and you might even have them already in your kitchen – butter, brown sugar, saltine crackers and chocolate chips. For the holidays, I thought I’d dress mine up a bit with some toasted almond slices, but that’s totally optional.

After I made a pan of this saltine cracker toffee candy I put Craig and I both on restriction. Two pieces and no more. I sent the rest into work and it disappeared almost as soon as Craig put it down on the table. I’m not sure if Craig’s co-workers love or hate me. Probably a combination of both.

This is another one of my Christmas candy recipes I’m posting this year. I thought you’d appreciate this simple recipe. You can whip it up in just a few minutes and then let it cool while you’re doing other things. The fact that it’s toffee made without a candy thermometer is just another bonus.

Saltine Toffee Candy is an easy candy recipe you can make in no time. It's perfect for Christmas gifts for friends and neighbors. Better make a double batch.

  • Approximately 40 saltine crackers
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cups chocolate chips (I used dark chocolate in mine)
  • ¾ cup sliced almonds, toasted (optional)
  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Line a sided baking sheet with foil and make sure the foil goes up all the sides.
  3. Arrange the crackers in a single layer on the bottom of the pan. Arrange them into lines, that way the entire pan gets covered.
  4. Add butter and brown sugar to a large saucepan.
  5. Melt butter and sugar over medium heat and give it a couple of good stirs.
  6. Once the butter has melted, let it boil for 3 minutes. You'll notice that the mixture has turned more amber in color.
  7. Take the mixture off the heat and evenly pour over the crackers.
  8. Slide the crackers into the oven and bake for 5 minutes. (The toffee mixture will be bubbly over the crackers.)
  9. Remove pan from oven and sprinkle with chocolate chips.
  10. Let rest for 2 minutes then use an offset spatula to evenly spread the chocolate over top of the toffee.
  11. Sprinkle with the almonds (if using).
To toast the almonds - Place almonds into a large saute pan. Heat over medium heat. Every couple of minutes stir or toss the almonds so that different almonds are in contact with the pan. Continue cooking until you see at least half of the almonds have gained color. Remove from heat.
